OSHA Updates COVID-19 Guidance for Employees in High-Risk Workplaces

August 23, 2021

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recently updated its guidance for mitigating and preventing the spread of COVID-19 in the workplace. The guidance includes recommendations specifically for workers in higher-risk workplaces such as manufacturing; meat, seafood and poultry processing; agricultural processing; and high-volume retail/grocery.

The updated OSHA recommendations for workers in these settings include:

  • Fully vaccinated workers should wear masks in areas of substantial or high transmission
  • Fully vaccinated workers in close contact with someone who has had COVID-19 should wear a mask for 14 days unless they have received a negative test within 3-5 days

The guidance also clarifies details on appropriate safety measures for types of contact when in close spaces that may not have proper ventilation, such as factory or manufacturing settings.

The updated recommendations are in response to rising cases of the COVID-19 Delta variant and align with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)’s latest statements. For more COVID-19 resources and information, please visit Amerisure’s policyholder resources.
