Recognizing OSHA’s Safe + Sound Week

August 9, 2021

This week marks the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)’s annual Safe + Sound Week, a nationwide event that recognizes the importance of workplace health and safety programs and connects organizations with resources to keep their workforce safe.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, more than 3.6 million people suffer a serious job-related injury or illness each year, and over 5,000 Americans die from work-related incidents annually. Efforts such as Safe + Sound Week strive to help improve these numbers by reducing the likelihood of injuries through effective organizational safety planning and education.

Health and safety programs play a vital part in any business, but especially in industries where workers are at higher risk of injury or illness. Amerisure encourages our policyholders in construction, manufacturing, healthcare and other industries to participate in Safe + Sound Week. There are several ways to get involved:

  • Enhance Your Own Safety Program: Check out helpful resources from OSHA and the National Safety Council including toolkits, courses and recommended best practices for workplace health and safety.
  • Sign Up For Safe + Sound Week Events: OSHA provides a list of activities across the nation you can participate in this week.
  • Share Your Company’s Participation: Participate this year or plan your activities for next year and share your experiences. You can receive a certificate of recognition from OSHA for your organization’s participation.

Implementing strong practices keeps workers safe and healthy and helps a company’s bottom line: OSHA estimates businesses can save $4-$6 for every $1 they invest in a workplace safety and health program, employee safety training and following relevant OSHA or state guidelines.
